About Me

Zoe Postlethwaite Counsellor

Like the majority of humans I haven’t come through life without
some problems, challenges and painful experiences.
During difficult times in my own life I have been reluctant to share how I truly feel. I worried others wouldn’t understand, or that I was burdening them. I feared being judged or knew I risked being given a huge amount of advice that I didn’t really want!

Counselling provided me with the answer to these problems.
For me there was power and comfort to be gained in talking and
being heard and the counselling process helped me to heal.

After experiencing this for myself I wanted to find a way I could give this opportunity to others. I challenged myself to head to college and train to be a counsellor. I have always had a genuine interest in people and mental health and I knew from my own personal
experiences the huge benefits of having that safe space and person to talk to.

The main roots of my counselling training are based in Person Centered Theory. This means I believe you are the expert in your own
world and I believe you know yourself best. I sometimes use strands of other theories if I believe they will benefit the counselling work but I do this within the limits of my experience and training. I work without judgement and want you to gain the most you can
from the experience. I don’t come with any set agenda, opinions or expectations. We can work at your pace and in a way that works best for you.

Amongst many other things, my course taught me that to be able to be fully present and listen to another person takes skill, time and
practice. I believe that to sit with clients and be that person who can be fully present and truly listen is a big privilege and a role I value deeply and get great fulfillment from.
